TNTA Annual Day

TNTA Annual Day was celebrated on Saturday, 19th April 2003 at the Centre Court of SDAT Tennis Stadium, Lake Area, Nungambakkam. Mr. Ramesh Krishnan, Indian Tennis Legend and Davis Cup Captain was the Chief Guest. The function was well attended by over 300 tennis enthusiasts, both young and old from all over Chennai and Tamil Nadu.

Mr. V. Narayanan, President TNTA welcomed all the invitees and Mr. M.P. Shankar, Honorary Secretary TNTA presented the Annual Report.

Mr. Ramesh Krishnan said that this was a unique gathering of tennis players and tennis lovers, where we could meet all – the familiar old faces and the talented new ones. He remarked that SANMAR-TNTA Chennai City Club Tennis League Championship is the most popular, spirited and model tournament in the country and other metros should take a cue from Chennai in this regard. He lauded TNTA for its efforts to promote tennis in the State.

Mr. Ramesh Krishnan gave away the awards to the Most Promising Players, Outstanding Players, the Madras University Men’s team, the Winners of the All India University title, the finalists of the Boy’s Event of the All India CBSC Inter-School Tennis Meet and the National Junior Championship. He also gave away the newly instituted Veteran’s Award to the outstanding performers from Tamil Nadu in the over 45, Over 55 and Over 65 categories. Mr. S. Sethu of Erode, Mr. Mubarak of Trichy and Mr. G. Palani of Chennai were the first proud recipients of this award respectively. There was a special moment, when Ramesh presented the award to Gayathri Krishnan, his daughter, the third generation of the legendary Krishnan family. Most importantly, he gave away the most prestigious award, instituted in the name of his Grandfather – “The T.K. Ramanathan Award” of Rs.30,000/- to Vinod Sridhar.

Mrs. Priya Krishnan, who also graced the occasion, gave away awards to the girls who had won the All Inter-University Women’s Title, the CBSC Inter-School Tennis Meet as well as the National Junior Championships.

Mr. V. Narayanan, President, TNTA then gave away the awards to the Senior Players who had performed well in the National Games and National Championships. He also gave away the first ever “Marker’s Award” to Thangaraj for his creditable performance in the KTC Marker’s Championship.

Mr. N. Sankar, Chairman, SANMAR Group gave away the prizes of the Winners and Runners of the 7 zones and the Veteran’s Event of the SANMAR-TNTA Chennai City Club Tennis League Championship 2003.

Mr. K.R. Ganapathy, Treasurer, gave the Vote of Thanks. The function concluded with a brief prayer.
