Besant Nagar Club retains SANMAR-TNTA City League Championship Title

The Zone ‘A’ final of the SANMAR-TNTA City League Championship witnessed some quality tennis with host Besant Nagar ‘A’ prevailing 2-1 over Gandhi Nagar ‘A’ to retain the title.

In the first tie, former National hard-court Champion Vijay Kannan, along with Preeti Rao of Gandhi Nagar, struggled initially before racing past Harish Upendra and S. Ganesh 7-6 (4), 6-1.

Vijay was easily the difference between the two teams.  Serving well and making some fine approach volleys, he directed the proceedings.

Minutes later on the adjacent courts, the senior duo Meenakshi Sundaram and T. Chandrasekar went down to the younger pair, Rishi Sridhar and Vikram Aditya Menon 3-6, 4-6.

With a 1-1 match level, V.M. Ranjit and Krishna Kumar, Captain of Besant Nagar Club clinched the issue with a facile 6-0, 6-2 win over Kannan Adityan and K.P. Balakumar.

The prestigious K.S. Narayanan Rolling Trophy for the Winners of the “A” Zone of the SANMAR-TNTA League was presented by Mr. N. Kumar, Vice-Chair, SANMAR Group immediately after the tie was over.
